Engineering education research is a field of inquiry that focuses on the scholarly study of practices and characteristics of engineering education stakeholders, as well as the generation of evidence-based knowledge and methods for improving learning among students. Themes in this field include pedagogy, curriculum assessment and development, stakeholder behaviors, competency-based education, outcome-based education, active learning methods, AI-aided education and EdTech, staff development, policy among others. Unfortunately, this area of research has received limited attention among engineering professionals in Nigeria, hence the limited availability of data and literature for sustainable interventions.
The Engineering Education Research Group, University of Nigeria (EERG-UNN) aims to bridge this gap through multidisciplinary and collaborative research to help chart the path for the future of engineering education in Nigeria and beyond. Experts from the fields of engineering, technical vocational education and training as well as the social sciences will work together on research ideas that cover the length and breadth of technical and behavioral characteristics of engineering education stakeholders. The research group will also provide instructional support for engineering academics that will enhance the quality of teaching and learning as well as overall student learning experiences.
